Perspectives on Anarchist Theory
Perspectives on Anarchist Theory is published by the Institute for Anarchist Studies. It includes recent essays by IAS-supported writers and translators, features with anarchist views on a contemporary issue, book reviews, regular columns, and updates about IAS activities. Perspectives is primarily an online journal. The IAS will post new articles as they are ready to go, so check back often for new content. New articles will be posted to this Web site's front page, then archived under the Perspectives section available through the menu at the top of the front page.
Perspectives on Anarchist Theory is edited by Jon Keller, Lara Messersmith-Glavin, Maia Ramnath and Paul Messersmith-Glavin.
Current Theme
The online format begins its birth with four essays exploring the thought and legacy of Murray Bookchin, one of the most influential anarchists of the late twentieth century. The Perspectives editorial collective encourage readers to contribute thoughtful responses to these essays, which will then be posted in the interest of initiating a dialogue on Murray's impact.
Following this, the editorial collective is interested in publishing essays addressing the themes of the current economic crisis and the climate crisis. The editors are looking for pieces that address these crises separately, or explore the intersections between the two. Essays should include radical analysis of the roots of the crisis, revolutionary proposals for solving the crises, or visions of a free society that can overcome these problems. While the editorial collective wants to concentrate on the climate crisis and the economic crisis for the remainder of this year, please feel free to submit articles not on either of these subjects. Perspectives will include articles on a wide variety of subjects beyond these themes as well.
Submissions
If you are interested in writing for Perspectives, please send an email to perspectivesmagazine@googlegroups.com with a proposal for your piece, or an abstract of a completed essay. The editors will take a look at your proposal and get back to you as soon as possible. All essays should have endnotes, not footnotes, and no page numbers.
Book Reviews
Perspectives editors are always on the lookout for book reviewers, so please get in touch if there is a title you are interested in examining; however, keep in mind that Perspectives ONLY publishes comparative book reviews dealing with two or three titles. At least one book in your review should be forthcoming or have appeared within the last year. In most cases, the editorial collecive can acquire a review copy for forthcoming and new books for the reviewer.
